Chapter 7 Summary

In chapter 7, it talks about the evolution of phones and networks. Although I know a little of both, I never had a complete picture of what the history of it was. It is so crazy to me how far the phone industry has come as even the latest phone in the from 2017 looks old to me.  Personally, I had never had anything under 4g wireless, but reading through, I can’t imagine not being able to text or send photos to others. I think only the previous generations could know and understand the pain of such slowness.

I have a very nice relationship with Wi-Fi. It has been with me for most of my 19 years on this earth. Reading through, I found out you can look at history through the router. I wanted to try it out and see how it works, so I did. It was fine. One thing I find interesting is the muni wifi. It is crazy to me that it can reach out to an entire city at once. Although, I’m not sure how they secure it if everyone has access to it. Not sure I would trust it.

Now I use Bluetooth daily. When I go for a walk or to the gym, it’s very nice not having to worry about a wire getting in the way.  I never knew where the name came from. It’s so cool that they named it after a king. Did he paint his teeth blue? I also like how it is not owned by anyone, as it makes it feel more shared and available to everyone. Not hogged by one company.
